  • International Mobility Analyst, Kevin Benedict, issued an interesting perspective on Enterprise Mobility: "In recent years the focus of enterprise mobility has been on device support, UX and the novelty of spinning wheels, swiping screens and supporting various keyboard designs in mobile UIs.  I believe the novelty of this will soon wear off with the introduction of more standards, policies, HTML5, etc, and the focus will again turn to developing increasingly valuable mobile applications that are user-specific.

One of the Mobility Experts that I interviewed earlier this year advised that mobile application designers should NOT start from the perspective of what can an ERP extend to the mobile workforce, but rather what can mobile technologies offer the mobile workforce.  What does the mobile workforce need, in the field, to more effectively deliver on their mission/assignment?

If the mobile workforce is the center of the universe, rather than the ERP, then there will be different priorities.  The mobile workforce may need mobile applications that are not part of the ERP, and are a mash-up of various web services that together provide unique benefit for the mobile worker and the company."

These findings from Kevin underpin the design philosophy of the BOoOM Enterprise Mobile Platform, which assists organizations to deliver workforce needs, system agnostically, with high agility and improved management for a lower total cost of enterprise-mobility ownership.

  • Applxbridge deploys the new Business Out of Office Manager® v1.2 as a proof of concept for large Enterprises in South Africa. The Dynamic Framework has allowed Microsoft .NET developers to facilitate real-time, bi-directional integration of enterprise solutions into the BOoOM Enterprise Mobile Platform. Managing Director, Martin Brandt, believes "it is important to tangibly improve existing business processes, or reduce customer service costs whilst increasing deliverables efficiency. Extending the business reach through a centrally managed and scalable mobile platform also means understanding what customers and employees want at any time, whilst allowing them to self-help and interact with the business when convenient. By example, our survey builder provides exactly that in a very targeted manner. BOoOM's Dynamic Framework offers software developers the ability to build additional content through plug-ins very quickly, over and above integrating existing systems data capital. The platform takes care of the various Mobile Operating System requirements for them, so as developers, they can focus on the business logic layer".

The organization is also currently expanding its EMIM (Enterprise Mobile Implementation Methodology) framework to address the full business & IT lifecycle of BOoOM platform ownership. EMIM covers strategy & company readiness in the 'Discover' phases; to project implementation and company integration in the 'Build' phase; and also includes IT operations and governance necessary in the 'Operations' phase. Brandt also adds "By having these POCs for v1.2, it allows us to fine-tune EMIM to get the very best out of what we have built. Clearly, this makes us, our subsidiary, and partners aim for consistent results and overall solution quality. Enterprise Mobility for any size business is more than just technology bragging rights, it's primary goal remains to continuously serve and drive business goals".
